Name: Eiji Hino
Canon: Kamen Rider OOO
Canon Point: During the final episodes, just before his last fight with Ankh
Age: About 18 - 19
Type of Character: Canon
Reference: http://kamenrider.wikia.com/wiki/Eiji_Hino
http://kamenrider.wikia.com/wiki/Kamen_Rider_OOO
Personality: Eiji is a good guy, unambiguously. He is kind, friendly, and won't hesitate to reach out and help someone else in need. But he also has a kind of depth to him that wouldn't normally be expected from a dork in brightly colored boxers who rides a vending machine to fight monsters made of coins.
That depth begins with an unavoidable truth, that Eiji shows symptoms consistent with posttraumatic stress disorder, according to the ICD-10 diagnosis criteria—he experienced war and watched a child die in front of him, a child whom he was unable to save; he re-experiences this trauma through flashbacks, both through memories and emotions, with every single crying child in the middle of a battle being the same exact girl he couldn't save; he's avoidant of talking about his trauma and until the finale, he wouldn't even travel anymore when he used to love it; and at least under stress, he is hyper-vigilant and extremely tense.
From this trauma arises other complications: Eiji has an intense psychological need to help people. He can't stop himself from running into danger to save anyone, and he can't keep out of other people's business when he hears some suggestion that they're in trouble, whether it's a suggestion a friend might be sick or witnessing complete strangers' marital troubles. He takes these responsibilities on himself, to the point that he sometimes apologizes even when he didn't do anything wrong—apologizing to an angry wife about her husband's laziness, apologizing to Goto because he can't just suddenly recover from his trauma and remember his desire. It feels like it's his failure, because he couldn't do anything about it.
Perhaps it's part of his desire. His greatest dream, ever since high school, was to reach out his hand and help everyone he possibly could. He even tried to start an international charity for children, but it was in Africa that this backfired and he only contributed to the war that killed his friend, traumatized him, and stole his dream. But even without his desire conscious, he still wanted to do everything he could to help other people, but he lost his grandiose scale and sense of the future. He couldn't reach the whole world. He couldn't consider a tomorrow. But he could reach out his hand as far as it went to save the people in front of him. He could have a new pair of underwear for tomorrow, in the chance that he might live to see another day, just like his grandfather advised.
And bound up in his trauma is another kind of shortsightedness with his desire—his inability to ask for help, and his inability to save himself. He's reckless with his own safety and health. He comes home sore and hurt, his body covered in more bandages than the Yummies he fights, and then he goes right back out there to fight again the moment he hears trouble. He runs straight into danger, barely considering the risk to himself, and it's observed by his own friends that he is perfectly willing to get himself hurt or even killed because he values other people's lives far more than he values his own. Sure, he doesn't want to die, but he doesn't take the effort to be careful with himself and try to protect himself nearly as well as he protects other people. He overuses his powers, even with everyone telling him he'll hurt himself, because he sees no other way to defeat an enemy.
He can't ask for help. There are times when he acts like the idea of others being concerned about him and wanting to help him while wanting nothing else in return is completely foreign to him. And maybe it is—after all, his own family used his war experience to their benefit and ignored his needs. But he needs people to remind him that he too is important and needs someone to reach out to him once in a while, and it'll take until he almost falls to his death to realize just how important he is to everyone and how much they love him.
So Eiji is an idiot, just as Ankh always said he was. Useful, but an idiot, because he's so reckless with himself and can't understand basic ideas about how much he's loved and how he can't help anyone if he gets himself killed.
He's an idiot. But he's not stupid.
Oh, sure. He's a dork—silly about things like his underwear or the dress-up and themes at Cous Coussier, spacey at times and not always seeming like he's completely focused, and adorable about cute things like the candroids. He misses some things that have nothing to do with his trauma. He misses romantic cues and basically has to be hit over the head with a baseball bat to even understand when someone has a crush on someone else. His judgment calls aren't the best, what with just accepting weirdness like "cake-baking billionaire just gives him cool stuff in exchange for Cell Medals (and also kinda wants him to turn into some all-powerful godlike being that no one knows if he'd even be able to control)," or even working with a hand monster attached to the arm of a half-dead police officer. And he of all people really shouldn't trust people like that so readily, when it's clear that for all Ankh and Kougami come to care about him, they are still using him, and he knowingly lets himself be used. But these generally are specific to him. He is much more careful about other people and does all he can to try to protect them—again, even when it means hurting himself physically or emotionally.
And he's clever, quick at thinking on his feet in a tough situation. Whatever social ineptitude he may possess is completely eclipsed by his cleverness when he has a backup plan to steal back Medals from a Greeed in the event of losing his or needing to negotiate, and without Ankh's help. His recklessness and questionable judgment about his own wellbeing is justified when he reveals he willingly absorbed a massive amount of Cell Medals into his body just so he can super-charge an attack to destroy his ultimate enemy. He gets downright manipulative too, at times, when he threatens to throw away the Driver if Ankh doesn't cooperate or makes deals Ankh doesn't like. He can go from raising a fuss and complaining at Ankh one minute, and then the minute Ankh's gone, he'll switch to pure competence and keen observation, having used his previous behavior to keep Ankh from thinking that he knew more than he let on, just so he could do what he knew Ankh didn't want him to. This behavior can completely throw off his friends, who are used to seeing him dorky and cheerful and altruistic. But he was a politician's son, and he was undoubtedly raised with the knowledge of how to use people to his benefit. He just only uses it when it's necessary.
He is a good person. He is kind. He is generous. He is helpful, to the point it becomes pathological. He cares about other people more than he cares about himself and hurts himself trying to help other people because he can't live with the regret if he doesn't try. He is traumatized, he struggles to accept help from others, and he has a manipulative streak.
He's working on it. But currently, he has some serious hang-ups around Ankh, given that he stole back Shingo Izumi's body and is—as far as Eiji knows, anyway—still trying to turn it into that godlike Medal vessel that Kougami wanted Eiji to become. He's been hurt, betrayed by Ankh's actions, even though he won't say it. He's scared of what the purple Medals are doing to him, that he's gradually losing his humanity, but he'll go down that road if it means stopping Ankh and anyone else who's going to destroy the world or harm others. Slowly, he's starting to realize that Ankh is the one who gave him what he wanted—the power to reach out to anyone, no matter where they are—so it hurts all the more that Ankh threw him away the way he did. But there's a chance for them to work it out here, and maybe then, Eiji can start to understand his desire better and realize that his life has just as much value as anyone else's.

Abilities: As far as normal abilities go, Eiji is well-traveled and has a lot of experience making friends with people from other countries, as well as camping, hiking, and other such things you'd expect from a world traveler.
When it comes to powers, he has the ability to transform into Kamen Rider OOO, which uses a two-part system to transform. The first is the OOO Driver, his transformation belt, which has an attached scanner that activates the Medals needed for his powers. Those Medals, specifically the Core Medals, are the second part. They were created 800 years ago by alchemists seeking to harness the powers of various classes of animals, and they allow him to use those powers.
Eiji has five purple Medals in his body, which are created from dinosaurs and other extinct animals (in this case, Pteranodon, Triceratops, and Tyrannosaurus). These can only be used in two different ways, both of which are rather dangerous for him.
First, they can be used to form the PuToTyra combo. Its powers allow him to freeze over enemies within a few feet of him, Ptera allows him to fly, Tricera shoots spikes out of his shoulders to impale enemies, and Tyranno creates a long tail he can use to whip his enemies from behind. However, this combo is still difficult for Eiji to manage, given that the Medals are powered by the void of desire, and they run the risk of him losing control and going berserk if he gets angry enough. It is also very destructive and can destroy other Core Medals if Eiji scores a direct hit on them.
The second thing they can do is even more dangerous for him—they are slowly transforming him into a Greeed—a monster made of Core and Cell Medals. He has the ability to sense other Greeed and Yummies—monsters made only of Cell Medals—but only those because they are similar to him. When he senses them, his eyes flash purple, which can also happen when he loses his temper. His elemental powers are vaguely defined, but he is able to generate dark bursts of energy that can blow off of him like wind or can be focused into a blast. However, in this form, he has almost no control over himself and does not recognize friend from foe—the only way he would be able to regain control of himself is to open himself up to his lost desire, which could risk him losing control of the OOO power itself and still have him acting crazy, but greedy this time. Currently, he has only gone so far that his left arm occasionally mutates into a Greeed form, but he is able to revert to normal if he calms himself down.
The purple Medals can be removed from his body if he regains his desire, at which point he can let go of them. Right now, with them in his body, he is gradually losing his senses; he has no sense of taste at all, and his vision is becoming less sharp and less colorful. The rest of his senses are still there but will fade if the Medals are not somehow removed.
Currently, Eiji also has the Tora (tiger) and Batta (grasshopper) Medals, which provide claws and leaping ability respectively. Without a head Medal, they are useless to him. Ankh has most of the rest of the cat set, which would give him Lion (the ability to shoot bright light) and Cheetah (super speed), or his own bird set, providing Taka (hawk—superb vision and targeting), Kujaku (peacock—creates feather projectiles as a light/fire construct, a small shield on his arm that can shoot small energy blasts or larger fireballs, or provide flight in the full TaJaDor combo), and Condor (powerful, clawed kick).
Suitability: Overall, Eiji will do well in Aifaran, curiously exploring new areas and trying to help people out of trouble. Ankh is also applying to the game, so we hope to settle things between them and hopefully rebuild their relationship, as well as get the purple Medals out of Eiji's body and figure out some way to give Ankh a human body of his own so he doesn't have to use poor Shingo anymore.
I prefer to play out plots, whether major mod-controlled ones or player-run plots, especially since Eiji cannot help but stick his nose into other people's business. He wouldn't be one for joining the Sentry, but he would try to help out if they needed help catching someone in the streets, for example. Given that Eiji is trying to recover his desire (i.e., remembering that he wants the power to reach out to anyone who needs help, and that Ankh is the one who gave it to him), dealing with the issue of OOO itself going berserk from desire, and then Eiji finding balance between the two extremes is my ultimate goal, as well as allowing him to heal from his trauma and discover more of a sense of self.
Inventory: Eiji has the OOO Driver and scanner, the five purple Medals in his body, and the Tora and Batta Medals, as described above.
Talent Preferences: Thinking on Eiji's personality and journey:
1. Restoration: He needs to heal himself and others
2. Illusion: He's a bit manipulative and lies a fair amount. Sometimes he even believes himself when he says he's okay.
3. Destruction: Because that void within him will destroy him just as violently as it will everything else he touches, so maybe he needs to learn how to deal with it.
